Reflection on Bullying
In my opinion, bullying is an act of the bully trying to show that he has more power than the victim does. Some people bully because they do not feel good about themselves, so they bully others to make themselves look big and powerful. Others bully perhaps because they cannot stand the sight of the victim, usually because of jealousy or appearances or just because of pure humor.
There are several types of bullying. Some examples are school bullying, workplace bullying, cyber-bullying and military bullying. Childhood bullying may lead to continuous of bullying habit in adulthood. However, no matter where bullying takes place, it is not acceptable.
One form of bullying that I think is the most common is social aggression or forcing the victim into
social isolation. This
isolation is achieved through a wide variety of techniques, including spreading
gossip, refusing to socialize with the victim, bullying other people who wish to socialize with the victim, and criticizing the victim's manner of dress. There are other forms of indirect bullying which are more subtle and more likely to be verbal such as name-calling, arguing others into submission and manipulation. More examples would be gossip/ false gossip, lies, rumors/ false rumors, staring, giggling, laughing at the victim, saying certain words that trigger a reaction from a past event, and mocking.
Usually, this form of bullying is more common on female bullies, who are more unlikely to exert physical abuse like male bullies do.
I think bullies should control their anger or urges that they have to hurt others. Also, victims of bullying should not be afraid, because they are not in the wrong and they have the right to seek for help. In a case of school bullying, the victim could seek help from a trusted teacher, parent or any adult or even their friend.
Bullying may lead to unstable emotion to the victims, even until they grow up. Therefore, bullying must be dealt with severely.
