Reflections on Bullying

What is bully? According to www.dictionary.com, bully simply means ' a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people'.

Nowadays, many teenagers tend to bully other people because they think it is cool, or they want to own something which other people have. Unfortunately, bullying is not a right thing to do and it can be consider as a serious offence if the victim was hurt when he or she is being bullied. If I were the victim, I would immediately report this incident, especially if I was hurt. Never suffer alone in silence when you are bullied. Stand out bravely and report this incident, because if you do not do so, you might be bully a second time by the same person. If I witness a case of bullying, I will also report this incident. Reporting incidents of bullying not only help prevent the victim from being bully again and also, it helps to prevent other people from being the next victim of the bully. Just like the saying goes ' killing two birds with one stone '. One should put yourself in others people shoes, it is never nice to be a victim.

I think bullying is quite a serious problem in many schools in Singapore as well as worldwide. Schools can give talks to students to make them more aware how serious bullying is and how they could help by reporting bullying cases if they ever witness one. When there is a case of bullying, schools should help the victim by telling the bully to apologize to the victim and also, to counsel them. For the bullys, schools should counsel them too, so that they could change for the better and turn over a new leaf. -- Tong Xiao Xin 1E6
