Reflection on Service Learning Day
Service Learning Day was held on the 21st May. It was a day where all Secondary 1 classes put up a stall to sell their products in order to earn money for their beneficiaries.
My class came up with a haunted house. On this day, my duty was to stamp people’s hands to confirm that they had paid the entrance fee to the haunted house.
Before the real day, preparations were made. During the preparations, I helped to design and put up posters as well as cut up and fix garbage bags on the walls of the CD Shelter in the school. I also helped to set-up the station with the table with a lamp, wig, wax hand and umbrella.
I thought the haunted house was a success. We earned quite a lot of money and we even had queues that were so long they reached to the tree in the car-park! We held the haunted house after school and we also had many customers. I even heard that many other students and teachers wanted us to hold the haunted house again on the 22nd May, the day after the 21st May!
From this haunted house experience, I have learnt that team-work and co-operation is very important for something successful to happen in a team. I have also truly experienced fortitude, integrity, responsibility and care and compassion through this haunted house. This was derived from the many problems we faced with our customers, our duties and our beneficiary.
Something new I have learnt about my class this time is that they seldom show their unity, unless there is a big class project that needs to be done, but all the same, 1E6 is very united, whether they show it or not!
