Reflection on service learning day
I felt that it is very good for a school to organise something called the service learning day. It is really fun and many indeed enjoy the process although the profits don’t go to us but the beneficiaries.
Well, we did a “haunted house” at the CD shelter. We came back on Saturday to paste all the garbage bags etc. Most of our time was spent pasting garbage bags because we still have to paste masking tape on it. It was fun as the outcome is great. On Saturday, I did the pasting of garbage bag mostly.
On the actual day, some of the garbage bags came of and thus we have to paste it back again, also help the so called “hand committee” with their fingernails. Then, we did some last minute touch up. During both lower secondary and upper secondary recess I was outside at the gate there controlling the crowd. The queue is indeed LONG. People were like asking why so long but no choice because the route is short. Well we increase the group number from 5 to like 14?
It is of course a success for e6. We manage to co-operate well and there were not many errors, everything run through well and customers are quite satisfied except the fact that it is too dark.
Although it was just a “haunted house” I did learn a lot of things. Team work, the ability to respond to last minute changes, how to control a crowd, to listen to friends comments. Though the process, there are a lot of things that we can’t find in textbooks.
Through the experience working with my friends, I did learn things too. I also found out some hidden talents. Some of them were really patient with things and some really lead the class well. I felt that I should be more patient with things and in this project I really learn the efficiency when a class work together as one!!!
