Service Learning Day Reflection
I played the role of a crying ghost in the Haunted House, along with two other classmates. It was fun and trilling but quite discouraging at times, especially when the other boys laughed and smirked at us. It was extremely difficult to scare the older boys and we were angry and frustrated, and at one point of time, we did not bother scaring the boys, and only attempted scaring the girls. Of course, we pulled through in the end. ‘
I also helped in preparing and setting up the haunted house. The Haunted House was actually the CD shelter. I mostly helped in cutting the garbage bags and pasting them on the walls so that they draped down to form a backstage area. Before we started preparation, I was afraid that we would not be able to complete the preparations on time as there seemed to be loads of work to be done but there were so little time. However, I am glad that we completed the preparations in the end and also did it very well.
I feel that the Haunted House was very successful not only because we made a lot of money, but also because we were able to overcome many problems and difficulties together as a united team. We were able to experience the thrill of frightening others.
I learnt that to be successful, we have to wok as a team. And to be able to work together well as a team, we have to accept each other’s differences and learn to listen to their ideas and opinions. We must not be bias as well. For instance, if we dislike a particular person, we still have to listen to their ideas and opinions objectively, for their ideas and opinions maybe even better than ours. Hence, we have to put aside all personal feelings and try to accept each other readily.
I also learnt more about our class. I found out that our class is united and has a strong team spirit. We were able to accept each other and worked well together for this service learning project. I could tell that everyone persevered even though there was loads of work to do.
I am extremely proud and happy of our achievements and hope to be able to work together as a class for more such projects in future.
