Old Ghost ( Jasmine Tay :D )
Jim Brennan, the main character woke up on his seventy-six years old birthday. He was lonely. He had been seeing the ghost of his childhood sweetheart, Ellen. He started thinking about the past. When Ellen was fifteen and he was sixteen, they loved each other. When Jim was seventeen, he went to the city. Under the influence of his flirty father, he betrayed Ellen and went out with the blonde lady. He went holidaying with the girl without saying goodbye to Ellen. Ellen fell sick and died. Jim came and regretted his action. Ellen waited for Jim. Jim died on his seventy-six years old birthday. They were finally together.
However, not all mistakes can be amended. Just like the mistake made by Jim. Jim is very immature and irresponsible. However, as teenage, making mistake is part of growing up and learning to be mature. Luckily, he realized that he was wrong. Maybe it was not too late as Ellen was still waiting for him. The story had taught us that making mistakes can be scary. We should always think before we do. Everyone made mistakes but we should learn from the mistakes.
The ending of the story is really touching. Although Ellen waited for Jim very long, her hard work was finally paid off at last. We should learn from her to be loyal to the people we love and do not give up no matter what.
Trust is something very important among people. We trust people we love. Thus, we will get hurt if they betray us. We should not betray the trust people give us. Trust takes time to build while only need a second to destroy. Thus, we should cherish the trust people give us and will not do things that will betray them.
The story also reflected to us that parents are always our role model. They have a huge influence on us and would affect the way we behave and think in the future. Just like Jim, his father was also one of the reasons why he betrayed Ellen. Thus, parents should really mind their own behavior and thinking in front of their children.
Lastly, we should not take things for granted. Just like Jim did not cherish Ellen in the first place. Something may not come back to us once we lost it. Example, a dead person. Regretting and crying over spill milk is useless. Thus, from today onward, cherish everyone and everything around us.
